Passenger Vessel Safety Conference 2013

The NIBC is one of the most active branches of the London-based Nautical Institute. At two-yearly intervals, the NIBC has hosted conferences dealing with important issues in the maritime industry, such as Command Development and Arctic Shipping. In 2011 NIBC was invited to host the AGM of the parent institute in conjunction with the conference, thus recognizing the engaged professionalism of our members and gaining great visibility for our sponsors.

Our theme this year is: "Passenger Vessel Safety; What is the industry doing to ensure continuous improvement?"

This remains a topical subject in this year following the RMS Titanic Centennial commemoration and the very news-worthy Costa Concordia incident. NIBC remains convinced that the overall picture is more positive than these news items suggest, and thus the aim of this conference is to provide visibility and understanding of the advances in Passenger Vessel Safety in the past and into the future.

Clearly, maritime industries in and around the Pacific Northwest have a strong stake in demonstrating the continuous improvement theme that is our subject. Operators from small whale watching open boat, tour boat, passenger only ferry, vehicle ferry and ocean cruise line industries will present how they approach this ongoing focus.
