James D. Reid is Managing Director of Acuratek Inc, a consulting firm that delivers risk management services and innovative transportation solutions to commercial clients and government entities. From 1999 until present date, he has been a founding partner, responsible for business development strategy and execution and has led numerous risk assessment projects on behalf of port operators, marine administrations, shipping companies, rail operators, aerospace & industrial clients and government entities.
From 1987 to 2003, he was employed by the Transportation Development Centre of Transport Canada and served as its Executive Director over the 2003 year. From 1990 onwards, James was part of the executive management team for the TDC and was responsible for the entity’s marine & multimodal transportation units. He was responsible for projects in collaboration with port authorities, shipping companies & associations and Transport Canada senior management.
Mr. Reid was also employed by Bell Canada Enterprises (BCE) from 1982 to 1985 as a Telecommunication Systems member of scientific staff and by Floating Point Systems of Portland, Oregon from 1985 to 1987 in a Systems Analyst capacity for supercomputer applications.
James holds a Master of Engineering from McGill University and a B.Eng. from Concordia University where he graduated having conducted experimental research in the field of electrical engineering at both institutions. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, having served as Chairman, Montreal Section and received the Institute’s Ross Medal for innovation in marine electronics applications.
